Church Home is a ministry to seniors located at Montgomery Place Retirement Community. A social service agency of Episcopal Charities and Community Services (ECCS) in the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago, Church Home was founded in 1888 as a housing facility for aged persons in need. The Church Home building was closed in 1987, and Montgomery Place was built in 1991. The Church Home now serves as a ministry of pastoral care and Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) and as a resource on aging for the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago.

The Rev. Dr. Robert Petite

The Rev. Dr. Robert Petite, Executive Director of Church Home, is the Director of Pastoral Services at Montgomery Place. He has many years of experience in parish ministry and in specialized settings. • Crisis intervention
  • Grief and loss care
  • Caregiver communication
  • Assisting in completion of Advanced Directives
  • Memorial services

  • Worship leadership
  • Private consultation

Clinical Pastoral Education program

Church Home is a nationally accredited CPE Center with the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE), which utilizes Montgomery Place as its CPE site. Students in the program visit Montgomery Place residents living in its Independent Living apartments and those living in its Catered Living and Health Care Pavilions.

The CPE program offers a specialty in ministry to elders and has an emphasis on family systems. Students gain experience in all issues related to aging, including memory impairment, life transitions, depression, grief and loss, family caregiving, spiritual assessment, family systems, advance directives, ethics, cultural competency, elder abuse and spiritual care at the end of life.

Inquiries about CPE can be made by telephoning (773) 753-4118 or by writing the Church Home, 5550 South Shore Drive, Chicago, IL 60637, or by emailing rpetite@montplace.com. Applications are accepted throughout the year, and can be obtained by logging on to the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education website at acpe.edu.
