Expansion and Renovation Progress Report
The wait is nearly over for far-reaching renovation and expansion projects here at Montgomery Place. In fact, in some cases the wait is over. Our administrative offices have been transformed. Many other “behind-the-scenes” projects are finished as well, from service elevators to parking surfaces.
The real excitement, however, is visible all over the community. Construction of the second floor rooftop gardens—made possible by a generous gift from longtime Montgomery Place residents Dr. Theodore N. and Marjorie Pullman—is scheduled for completion in early 2008. This will give Health Care Pavilion residents access to fresh air in a lovely setting that overlooks the Montgomery Place courtyard, Lake Michigan, and Promontory Point. As part of an extensive renovation to the third floor, rooftop gardens facing the Museum of Science and Industry will be created for Catered Living residents.
In late 2007, the second floor renovations to the Health Care Pavilion were completed, and thanks again to the generosity of the Pullmans, so was our new private dining room. The pastoral care office is now up and running, as is the new education center. Staff enrichment programs, resident meetings, and small lectures and events will take place here.
A greenhouse—also made possible by the Pullmans—will also open this winter, allowing residents to move plants they have been nurturing in the activity room to their light-filled new home.
Early 2008 promises to be extremely exciting, with scheduled completion of two of the most eagerly awaited additions to our community: a conservatory and the Dr. Theodore N. and Marjorie Pullman Wellness Center. The conservatory will serve as a gathering area for residents and friends, while the pool and fitness area will round out a list of amenities that really do redefine retirement. What’s next?
