Montgomery Place continues to move forward during this time of COVID-19

Dear Friends and Family,

Last evening I watched fireworks across the western suburbs, in early celebration of our nation’s birthday. I could tell they were launched by individuals in their neighborhoods because their bursts were brief. I wonder how many communities will produce fireworks shows this 4th of July or if they, too, will be cancelled due to COVID-19. For the record, I’m in favor of a few minutes of “the rockets’ red glare, the bombs bursting in air” to celebrate.

Quite a few residents are frustrated because their night’s sleep is interrupted due to loud fireworks set off near our building. I’ve reached out to the Alderman’s office and sent notes to the local authorities in an attempt to quell the late night (and even into the early hours of the morning) noise. I’m not sure if this effort will change the behaviors of those who are enjoying isolation-free nights out on the lakefront.

Summer is in full swing! The gardens are lush and beautiful. The hydroponic towers are planted, growing and soon will yield produce. More chairs now are arranged throughout the gardens so friends and family can enjoy visits.

Beginning next week, we will work with families of individuals who live on the second floor of our healthcare wing in our skilled nursing care and on the third floor for assisted living so they can schedule a visit in the gardens. This will be a coordinated effort and require approval from our Director of Nursing. She will make decisions on a case-by-case basis, considering the medical needs of each person and arranging for a staff member to escort each resident to the gardens. Please look for more information during the next weeks while we find a way for you to see your loved ones.

May your own celebrations of the 4th of July have a few fireworks! Be well and be safe. I will next write to you on Monday, July 6, because I, too, am planning a holiday weekend.

Still, if I can answer any questions or be of further assistance, please call my mobile phone number, 773-617-1317, at any time.
