Montgomery Place puts out welcome mat during this time of COVID-19
Happy Friday to all!
Summer Fridays are different than those during any other season. There is lighter air in the work environment as people prepare for the weekend with more conversations about weekend plans. Even in this time of COVID-19, people are planning to get out to enjoy the beautiful weather with golfing, biking, walking and dining in their backyard. The fragrance of bar-b-que is in the air!
This week, we encouraged residents to picnic in the gardens. Several brought their lunches to eat outside. We hosted Thursday’s Happy Hour in the garden, too. This beautiful outdoor space also is safer according to guidelines about COVID-19.
We still encourage social distancing and mask wearing. More residents are going on outings, sometimes with friends. Many take walks and, now that the lakefront is open, different paths and scenery are available. These are ways we are encouraging residents to learn to live in a COVID-19 world.
Next week, we open a few more areas within the building. Groups of 10 or fewer residents can get-together in the art studio, the pool for therapeutic swims and taking laps, and our bus resumes trips for shopping and errands to the stores that are open. Many are excited to start getting out and about more.
One more change: We will open Montgomery Place to visits with family and friends for independent living residents. Yes, if your loved ones are in independent living, you can visit in the Lounge and Café areas on the main floor or outside in the garden, but not yet in their apartments.
Please do not bring food or drink. Wearing a mask and respecting social distancing is required. To give more people an opportunity to spend time together, we are limiting these visits to 30 minutes if indoors and one hour if in the garden. Our staff will monitor numbers of visitors and residents in these areas and limit how many people may enter the building at a time. We appreciate your understanding.
This partial opening of our community will be tough on those families of residents in assisted living and skilled nursing care. Please know we are following the visitor restrictions published by the Illinois Department of Public Health which has not yet lifted this restriction on visitors for residents in licensed areas. We will continue to keep you connected via FaceTime or other programs until IDPH regulations allow visits.
Remember, our goal is to remain free of COVID-19. Please be certain you are healthy before you decide to visit.
I look forward to seeing many of you next week and in the coming weeks. Have a great weekend and enjoy the outdoors!
